Designed by Daniel Andrieu for Jeanneau, the Sun Odyssey 40 was introduced in 1998 as a replacement model for the Sun Odyssey 39. It remained in production until around 2004, when the Sun Odyssey 40.3 was brought in.
By the time these Sun Odyssey 40s were produced most production builders were using inner moulded GRP "egg-crate" linings in the bilges to reduce labour in construction, but Jeanneau retained the simpler but more labour intensive grid system until the mid-2000s, which makes repairs much easier if ever required. The SO40 also had more solid timber joinery than the later boats.
Two bulbed fin keels were offered, the shallow keel being 4' 11" in draught, and the deep keel 6' 4". This yacht is the twin aft cabin version with a deep fin keel. |
