Oyster Heritage 37 |
Brief details |
Builder |
Landamores, Wroxham for Oyster Marine Ltd., Ipswich, Suffolk |
The Oyster Heritage 37 was a Holman and Pye design for Oyster Yachts, intended as a smaller version of the company's very successful Oyster 435. These yachts were intended as powerful all-weather passage-makers with a high quality fit-out. This well equipped Oyster Heritage 37 is one of the last few built, and is a sollid and seaworthy cruising yacht. |

Just over 30 Heritage 37s were built between 1984 and 1989, going through four different Mks from Mk I to Mk IV, which is the version of this 1989 yacht for sale, the 32nd of the 35 built. There were slight differences between the Mks, the last Mk IV versions having deeper draught and a larger aft berth than the earlier boats. A very few of the boats built were fitted with a fixed pilothouse as an option - this yacht being a standard coachroof version.
The Oyster Heritage 37 is significantly heavier than many other contemporary (and present) cruising yachts. The displacement quoted above is taken from a 1989 brochure for the Mk IV. It is possible that displacement increased in the later boats, as a lower figure of 14539 lb lbs is quoted in an earlier brochure for the Mk I.
The ballast of the Mk I with 5' 3" draught has been quoted as 6,000 lbs.
Note that there is also another Oyster 37 design ( not the "Heritage" ) that is very different - the Oyster 37 was an IOR One-Ton Cup racer.
Oyster Marine were primarily the marketing company, most of their boats up until around 2012 were actually built for them by other companies, mainly by Landamores of Wroxham, a long-established boatyard with an excellent reputation.
'Yachting World' magazine reviewed the design when it was in production and the reviewer said ".... she is closer to my ideal cruising yacht than any other boat on the market." |
