The Roberts 34 is one of Bruce Roberts' older
designs, but has a very impressive history of long distance passage-making,
including Leslie Powles' "Solitaire", which has completed
three circumnavigations including his last non-stop passage in 1997
from New Zealand to Lymington in England via Cape Horn (Powles had
been refused permission to leave New Zealand as he did not have
the right safety gear on board!). The design is aimed at home builders,
and can be built in steel, aluminium, GRP or (as in the case of
the white hulled example shown here) wood-epoxy
