The Vancouver 27 is an uncompromisingly cruising-orientated design, with no concessions to racing or modern fashion. The heavy-displacement long keel hull is very solidly built, and the hull form copes well with added weight for stores for long passages. This is a Mk II version of the Vancouver 27 that has been very well maintained and refitted over the years, and is in extremely good condition, with a recent new engine, good sails, vane gear self-steering and a full cockpit canopy. Internally she has a very well looked after 3-berth interior, with Eberspacher heating and near new upholstery.

The Vancouver 27 was originally designed in 1972 by the Canadian Robert Harris, as a one-off cruiser which was then sailed from British Columbia to New Zealand and back. Later a second boat was built, and moulds were taken from this for series production, both in Canada and England. The English Vancouvers were first built by Pheon Yachts, and later taken over by Northshore. Over the years the design was modified slightly to create the Vancouver 274 and then the 28, which remained in verly limited production well into the 2000s, though by then they were extremely expensive for their size.

The differences between the 27, 274 and 28 are very minor. the 28 having a fractionally lengthened stern, and a few inches raising of the topsides. To date over 250 Vancouver 27s 274s and 28s have been built, and many have made long-distance passages, helped by the fact that the transom-hung rudder makes it easy to fit trim tab windvane steering.

Two different interior layouts have been produced, with three or four berths. In the three berth version there are no forecabin berths, but a quarter berth aft in the saloon. This yacht is the three-berth version, generally regarded as a better boat for a couple or a singlehander as it has a better galley and chart table arrangement. There are two pipe cots but the boat would be very cramped indeed with 5 aboard.

The hull and deck are hand laid up GRP. The ballast is encapsulated entirely within the hull moulding. The deck moulding has a balsa core which is replaced with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are attached. The interior fit-out is to a very high standard of joinery, with lots of solid teak.
