Dufour 32 Classic

Dufour Yachts, Périgny, France

32' 3"

Sail area

581 sq ft

Brief details

27' 3"

This 2002 example of the Dufour Classic 32 is in her second ownership from new, and looks to have had relatively light use. The design offers an excellent compromise between sailing performance and comfort, with a remarkably well finished and spacious interior. She has good sails, including a virtually unused new mainsail, hot and cold water, and Eberspacher hot-air cabin heating. She is for sale now as the owners have just bought a larger yacht.

The Dufour "Classic" range was introduced in 1995/96. All were designed by J. & J. Designs, and were intended as comfortable cruisers with good sailing performance. The 32 is the second smallest of the range. The "Classic" series was Dufours premium cruising range, and at this time Dufour were using the Gib'Sea brand as their budget range aimed at charter companies. Production of the Dufour 32 Classic appeared to cease in early 2004 when the Felci/Roseo designed Dufour Grand Large 325 was introduced, this being similar in size, but with a distinctly cheapened interior fit-out, again with an eye to the charter market.

The hulls of the Dufour 32 Classics are GRP sandwich with high density PVC foam core, laid up using vacuum bagging techniques, and the decks are GRP balsa sandwich construction. The interior joinery is in khaya mahogany, with a better quality finish than many other production cruisers.

The yacht for sale here is a deep fin keel version, with tiller steering - a tiller having substantial advantages in this size of yacht, both in terms of response and feel of the helm, and in opening up cockpit space when moored or anchored.

The saloon does not have curtains, but button-on blinds for the windows as seen here. The forecabin and aft cabin berth upholstery is the standard Dufour patterned fabric, but this yacht was fitted with optional Alcantara suede-type fabric for the saloon settees.

Volvo MD2020

The engine is a freshwater cooled Volvo MD2020, driving a fixed two-bladed prop via a Volvo Saildrive. There is good access both via the companionway base (as shown) and from the aft cabin. Precise engine hours are unknown, as (like almost all Volvo LCD hour displays) the hour counter no longer reads, but on a logged basis the owners estimate about 1,000 to 1,200 hours.
