The Hunter Horizon 26 is a David Thomas design for Hunter Boats, intended to be a slightly larger, more cruising-orientated version of the 25 foot Hunter Delta, itself a development of the very successful Hunter Sonata 24 foot one design cruiser-racer.

Introduced in 1984, the Horizon 26 design was one of the first small British-built boat to have what was then the unusual feature of an aft cabin and aft heads. The design was a success, with about 160 built in four years, and led on to the later Horizon 27, 272 and 273 variants. Although fin and lift-keel Horizon 26s were built, the majority were twin bilge keeled, these twin keels being fairly deep and giving good performance under sail. The Horizon 26 design remained in production until 1988.

The Horizon 26 was designed to have the choice of an outboard in a cockpit well, or a small inboard engine - this yacht having the inboard option.

Hunter Horizon 26 for sale

"Hornpiper" is an excellent example of the Hunter Horizon.  The Hunter Horizon 26 is a comfortable, spacious, lively family cruiser, with great performance. Her bilge keels will allow access to creeks and drying out places in quiet locations.  Able to accommodate 6 and comfortable for four adults with a roomy aft cabin.  Copper coat anti-fouling for all-year speed and ease of maintenance.  Serviced Yanmar 1GM10 inboard diesel.  She is well equipped for cruising with a Garmin GPS, DSC VHF, Auto-helm (Raymarine tiller pilot), Navtex.  In addition she capable of racing with folding prop and spinnaker setup. Sails are good and the standing rigging was replaced 2015. Many extras including winter cover, original 3 blade prop, spare sails, fenders, warps etc.  Ready to sail away and enjoy

Saloon headroom is 6' 1" by the galley and chart table, lowering forward. The forward vee-berth area can be used as a child's berth as seen here, or can be extended aft with a hinge-out cushioned shelf, making four adult sized berths in the saloon if needed. The saloon settee berths are 6' 3" long.

Hunter marketed the Horizon 26 as a six-berth boat, but with six adults she would be very cramped. Nevertheless, the design does a very good job of fitting in a proper chart table and galley, separate heads and aft cabin, into a 26 foot hull that sails very well.

The aft cabin berth is oddly shaped, and is 6' 3" long at its shortest (inboard), and approx 3' 6" wide at its widest point. It either makes a rather small double or a very large single berth.

The Yanmar 1GM10 fully reconditioned engine, supplied and fitted by Cellar Marine
(Yanmar agents) has run under 150 hours to date

The main halliard and reefing lines are led back to the cockpit, where there are banks of clutches and a pair of Lewmar 6 winches on the coachroof

This yacht is in very good condition generally: the hull had a preventative epoxy coating with Blakes SFE200 system in 20081, after low moisture readings had been obtained, and has since been Coppercoated in 2011 after a further check showed low moisture readings.
