Moody 27

Brief details

Builder

Moody Yachts/Marine Projects, Plymouth

The smallest of the production Moodys, the Moody 27 is a useful small family cruiser that still looks modern, despite the design dating back to 1981. This 1983 example is a well looked after yacht with quite a lot of recent updates, including new mast and rigging, mainsail, sprayhood and cockpit tent.

The Moody 27 was introduced in 1981, and was the predecessor of the 1985 Moody 28. The two designs have many similarities: the main difference being that the 28 has an inboard rudder and a small sugarscoop step on the transom.

One of the interesting curiosities is the whilst the Moody 27 was marketed at 27' 8" in length, the Moody 28 replacement was two inches shorter.

The design of the Moody 27 is sometimes attributed to Angus Primrose, and sometimes to Bill Dixon, who was working at Primrose's design office at the time. The boat certainly looks like the other Bill Dixon designs for Moody, and does not have the Primrose "trademark" flared bows as seen, for example on the Moody 29
