The Elizabethan 33 is a traditional long-keeled cruising yacht. This 1982 example is Part I registered, and had a full osmosis treatment by a well known boatyard in 2003. She has been regularly cruised by her present owners around the south coast and Ireland, but they are now very keen to downsize to a smaller boat for more local sailing. She is in full commission and ready to sail away.

Elizabethan yachts were originally made by Peter Webster Limited at Lymington, with a range of models from 23 ft upwards. The Elizabethan 33 was introduced in 1974, and was designed by David Thomas, one of the best-known British yacht designers, who was also responsible for many British Hunter and Sigma designs, as well as many racing yachts.

Shortly afterwards Peter Webster sold the moulds of the Elizabethans to Drummond-Bayne Marine, who continued building these yachts at Southampton. They continued to build Elizabethans up until around 1985.

The Elizabethan 33 has a solid GRP hull using woven rovings, with a bolt-on external ballast keel. The deck and cockpit moulding are also GRP, with balsa cores in horizontal areas, replaced with ply core in stress areas for fitting. Like almost all GRP boats of this era, the hull mouldings are much more heavily built than modern production yachts.

One of many now classic long-keel designs from the 1960s/70s, the Elizabethan 33 is slightly longer and possibly prettier than the better known Nicholson 32, but also fractionally lighter and shallower draught.

Saloon table

The folded saloon table drops to berth level, and with the port settee backrest raised forms a double berth if required. All berths are 6' 3" long, except the quarter berth aft of the chart table, which is a foot shorter, and really a child's berth.

The Elizabethan 33 was not built in as large numbers as some of her smaller sisters such as the Elizabethan 23 and 29, but for anyone looking for a very seaworthy traditional yacht the Elizabethan 33 is an attractive alternative to the Nicholson 31s or 32s, or the Contessa 32. The present owners of this Elizabethan 33 have since 2002 regularly cruised her round the UK and Ireland, but are now keen to downsize for more local sailing.
