The Sun Odyssey 37 is a popular modern family cruiser, with a particularly spacious and bright interior. This yacht for sale is a shallow keel twin aft cabin version, giving three double cabins without using the saloon berths. She has a good cruising inventory and is in very good condition for her age. She has been in the same ownership for 14 years, and the owner is now looking to downsize.

Sailplan

The Sun Odyssey 37 was designed for Jeanneau by Jacques Faroux, and introduced in mid-1999 as a replacement for the Sun Odyssey 36.2. Production of the Sun Odyssey 37 continued until 2005/6 when it was replaced by the Sun Odyssey 39i model,.

The hull is solid hand-laid GRP, with Kevlar for added strength in high-load areas. There are moulded-in longitudinal stringers and floor grids. Unlike Beneteaus of similar age, and most newer Jeanneaus, there is no single full-length inner moulding, though there is a large sub-moulding forming the GRP heads compartment base. The deck is balsa-cored, with a moulded inner lining.

The SO37 design was built with either one or two aft cabins, and a choice of deep or shallow keels. This yacht has the 4' 9" shallow keel and is the version with twin aft double cabins. The saloon is spacious, with a fixed forward-facing chart table.

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 37 shares the same hull and interior as the "club racing version" the Sun Fast 37, which has a very slightly bigger rig and deeper keel, plus some minor changes to deck gear.

Rig

Unusually this yacht has been fitted with Profurl in-boom reefing.

In-boom reefing is more commonly found on larger yachts and is almost universal on superyachts. It has many advantages over in-mast furling both for sail shape and because unlike in-mast reefing, it is "fail safe", as if the furler fails the sail can in emergency simply be dropped by releasing the halliard.

It also puts less weight into the mast than in-mast reefing, and gives a very neat stow with less windage.
