The Moody 346 remains
one of the most popular family cruisers, thanks to very spacious
accommodation including a really excellent aft cabin. This bilge
keel version also offers the ability to use shallow moorings or
to dry out. If required a deep water
serviced mooring could be available with this yacht.

The Moody 346 was introduced in June 1986
as an update to the Moody 34, itself a modernised replacement
for the old Angus Primrose designed Moody 33/333 range. These
Dixon-designed models were considerably sleeker looking than
the earlier Primrose designs, yet retained all the virtues
of interior space and good sailing performance. The interior
fit-out of the 34 and 346 was also to a significantly better
standard than the earlier 33s, which used a lot of plastic
laminates instead of wood.
The Moody 34 and 346 are virtually identical, except that
the 346 has a transom bathing/boarding platform. The Moody
346 continued in production until mid-1990, proving one of
the most successful designs for the company
Often compared in terms of accommodation to the Westerly Seahawk,
the Moody 346 is to most eyes a much more attractive yacht, though
the lower profile results in less headroom below than the Seahawk.
The the hull and topsides of this yacht are in very good condition
for her age.
The L-shaped galley is forward of and extends into the passageway
to the aft cabin, with twin sinks and good working space as well
as top-opening fridge and two-burner, grill and oven cooker. Whilst
headroom in most parts of the boat is good, the 'walkway' through
to the aft cabin is fairly low - only the very short could walk
upright.
The aft cabin (below) is the major selling point of this and other
more recent Moody centre-cockpit designs. On this yacht the aft
cabin headlining has been renewed.
Engine access is via a large hatch in the walkthrough to the
aft cabin,
or by means of a removable panel in the cockpit sole
The hulls were built for Moody's by Marine Projects, to Lloyds
specifications, each hull having a Lloyds Hull Release note. The
keels are iron , and in 2005 both keels were removed and rebedded
with new keelbolts. The photo above shows her ashore before this
work was done.

This yacht has was completed in December
1986, and launched early in 1987. For at least the past twelve years
she has been ashore for at least six months each winter. She offers
a modern, spacious family cruiser with a good cruising inventory.
