Introduced in 2000, the Bénéteau Océanis 393 is a smaller version of the Oceanis 473, designed by Berret/Racopeau, who had previously drawn the Oceanis 361 and 381 for Beneteau. The model replaced the Oceanis 381 in Beneteau's range, and was generally regarded as giving significantly improved sailing performance, with a bigger rig and a higher ballast ratio than the earlier 381 model.

The Oceanis 393 was available in either two or three cabin versions, this yacht being the three cabin version, with the owners cabin forward with en-suite heads. A second heads aft serves the twin aft cabins. Various engines were fitted, including Volvo, Yanmar and Nanni, this yacht having the D2 series 55 hp Volvo with a three-blade folding prop (new in 2014).

The hull of the Oceanis 393 is a solid moulding with woven rovings and CSM, with vinylester gelcoat and isopthalic resin. The deck is balsa sandwich with solid laminate or ply where fittings are attached. The "Clipper" designation is used by Beneteau to indicate a yacht supplied with a variety of extras over the basic model.

'Yachting Monthly' reviewed the design in 2001 and commented ".... she proved to be a quick yacht" and ".... she is much more controllable when pressed than her predecessors. he showed a reluctance to broach and her turn of speed will satisfy most cruising crew".

There are two near-identical but mirror-image aft cabins, the port side one (pictured) having slightly more locker space - see accommodation plan below.

The Volvo diesel drives a new three-bladed Volvo folding prop via a conventional sternshaft
exiting via a moulded shaft log. The engine start battery was new 2012,
and the two Varta domestic batteries were new in 2013
