The Hallberg-Rassy 37 was designed for the company by German Frers, as a comfortable long distance cruiser with a centre cockpit protected by the typical Hallberg-Rassy fixed windscreen. The design was an update of the very successful Hallberg-Rassy 36, with the clear aim of sharpening up sailing performance whilst retaining the previous models go-anywhere credentials.

The interior layout provides an excellent aft cabin, well separated from the saloon. The large engine room under the cockpit has sufficient space for additional equipment to be fitted such as a power generator. Her tankage is generous for long range cruising.

About 200 Hallberg-Rassy 37s were built between 2003 and 2012, the smallest centre-cockpit Hallberg-Rassy built after 2012 being the 40. The current 37-footer - the Hallberg Rassy 372 is based on a different hull with a lower ballast ratio, and is aft-cockpit. A new HR372 will cost between £250,000 and £300,000 depending on the options and equipment.

There are photos from a 'Yachting Monthly' review of the design on this page and 'Yachting Monthly' commented in their print review "....she is undoubtedly well balanced and tracks well. She will be a relaxing boat to steer, even on long passages" and "....what we found almost impossible to fault was the quality of workmanship and finish".

HR37 walkthrough to aft cabin
chart table

Engine access is via a large hatch in the walk-through to the aft cabin, there being enough space in the engine compartment to install a genset if needed. The Yanmar engine was an option in place of the standard Volvo, and it drives a three-bladed Gori feathering prop on shaft drive with a flexible coupling. The engine has a second alternator fitted to increase charging capacity for the large services battery bank.

The hull is laid up in isophthalic gelcoats and resins, with kevlar reinforcement in the keel area, and Divinycell sandwich construction above the waterline and in the deck moulding. The keel is lead, attached with 15 S/S keelbolts. The protective rub rail fitted to the hull sides (essential for Baltic post moorings) is in S/S instead of the standard Hallberg Rassy brass, and she has extra cleats and other deck fittings such as double bow rollers, entry gates in the lifelines, etc.

The cockpit has a full 'camper' enclosure - the one seen in the photos is the original one though a brand new one has just been delivered from Sweden, the intention being to use the older one when the boat is laid up. There is also a tailored full winter cover, as seen below.

Bought new in 2005 after we sold their previous (also beautifully maintained and Swedish) yacht, this Hallberg-Rassy 37 is in absolutely lovely condition, with a substantial amount of extra options over a standard boat. She is for sale now only due to health issues.
