Countess 33

The Countess 33 was a 1980 Ian Anderson design for Colvic Craft, who moulded the hulls and decks, and sold them to a number of boatyards, including Hartley Marine, who completed this example.

The hull is of beamy and of moderately heavy displacement, with deep and well-angled bilge keels, giving a good cruising sailing performance. The keels have encapsulated ballast, and the rudder is supported on a substantial half skeg.

The forecabin has a vee-double berth, 6' 4" long on the vee, with the forward heads to port between the forecabin and saloon. There is a shower in the forward heads.

The port saloon berth is 6' 3" long, the starboard berth 6' 6" long.

The boat has extensive storage in lockers in all cabins, and very large lockers
in the walkthrough to the aft cabin

Left: A front-opening fridge is built in to the space under the companionway, by the chart table. There is another icebox (without refrigeration) in the galley worktop.

Below: The Isuzu diesel was installed five years ago, and has run 576 hours. There is excellent engine access from a large removable panel in the walkthrough to the aft cabin, and another access panel in the workshop (yes - this boat has a workshop!)

The aft cabin berth is 46" wide fore and aft, and tapers from 97" long forward to 60" at the aft end. The triangular plywood sheet mounted on the forward face of the aft berth is a hinged extension piece to widen the berth so that three children can sleep fore and aft: this could be removed easily.

Aft heads

The starboard cockpit locker is converted into a small but usable workshop, with a door into the aft heads, and the battery box forming a seat.

Countess 33 for sale

This is a well maintained and well equipped boat, for sale now only for health reasons. If you are looking at Moody 336s or Westerly 33 ketches, the Countess 33 is a very good alternative.
