This is a really well looked after and updated example of these popular family cruisers. She has excellent recent sails, and an inventory that includes good electronics, cabin heating and a full cockpit "camper" cover. The interior is in immaculate condition, and the dark blue hull also looks very good indeed. This yacht is the "Clipper" version, which includes some nice extras over the basic specification. She is for sale now as the very experienced owners are thinking of downsizing.

* Different Beneteau brochures and documents sources show slightly varying figures for displacement, ballast, and fuel and water capacities - the figures we have used here are taken from a French Beneteau sales brochure. Also the Beneteau brochure gives the yacht as being RCD Cat 'B', whilst several other sources say she is RCD Cat 'A'. We find such minor technical discrepancies are fairly common with many models of production yachts.

Sailplan

Designed by Groupe Finot, the Beneteau Oceanis 323 is a modern family cruiser with good performance under sail. The hull is GRP with a structural inner moulding, and the deck is a GRP balsa sandwich with a slotted aluminium toerail. There were three keel options, deep fin, shallow fin and centreboard, this yacht having the deep fin keel. Some sources state that twin aft cabins were an option, but every boat we know of has the larger single aft cabin.

Nominally 7 berth, she is very comfortable for a couple, with either children or occasional guests. The aft cabin and forecabin are good double berths, and the saloon offers another narrow double and a short single berth if required. There is only so much you can fit into a 32 foot hull with a good separate heads compartment!

In reviewing the design, 'Yachting Monthly' reported ".... forget the traditional idea of an Oceanis, this boat really performs" and ".... a competent and reasonably fast all-rounder, capable of making good progress to windward in quite damaging conditions and decidedly sporty off the wind".

'Yachting World' said ".... the hull looks surprisingly slippery. It is, in fact, essentially the same hull that Groupe Finot and Jean Berret designed in the early 1990s for Beneteau’s single-handed offshore racer, the Figaro. Since then it has been used for two other sporty Beneteaus, the First 310 and First 31.7, as well as the Beneteau Oceanis 323’s predecessors in the Oceanis range, the 311 and 300".

This is a really good example of these compact modern cruising yachts, maintained by a very experienced couple to a high standard. The yacht is well equipped, is in remarkably good order inside and out and the engine has low hours. They are selling now as they are planning to downsize.
