The Hustler 30 is a classic small cruiser-racer, fast and seaworthy, as well as being a very elegant yacht. This example was moulded in late 1971 and would thus probably have been launched in 1972. Her condition very much belies her age - she really is a very smart boat. She was re-engined in 2004, and is very well equipped including Navik wind-vane steering. She is for sale now as the owner has bought a larger yacht.

Sailplan

The original * Hustler 30 was designed by Don Pye of Holman & Pye, and is often regarded as one of the prettiest designs from his board. They are fast boats, and when first introduced in 1970, had many racing successes. Now, like many similar boats of this era, such as the Elizabethan 30 and She 31 they make good fast cruisers, with still enough speed for handicap racing to be enjoyable.

There were two common interior layouts in Hustler 30s, some having a fixed dinette layout. This example is the other more conventional "linear" saloon, with two settees and a small removable folding saloon table.

All the Hustler 30s were moulded to Lloyds standards by Tylers, and many were then fitted out and marketed by Island Boat Sales. The Lloyds hull construction certificate for this boat was made out to the order of Island Boat Sales, and she has a hull plate from Hartley Marine Ltd., who we thus believe fitted her out.

( * there was also a 'second generation' Hustler 30 in the early 1980s, a much more aggressively race-oriented design by Stephen Jones, with more beam and less weight: these are sometimes known simply as Hustler 30s, or sometimes as Hustler SJ30s ).

The gold anodised mast is probably original: the silver anodised boom is clearly newer. Standing rigging is from 2013, except the forestay which is from 2012.

It was removed and refitted on new mounts in early 2021

This is a remarkably well looked after example of these very attractive cruiser-racers - the hull certainly does not look as though she is approaching 50 years of age, with original gelcoat in excellent condition. The underbody was epoxied in 2010. She has a good inventory, and is for sale now as the owner has bought a larger yacht.
