The Bavaria 350 is one of the Axel Mohnhaupt designs, from a time when Bavaria Yachts was aiming to compete on quality with the Scandinavian builders rather than on mass production at a low price. She is a three-cabin fin keel version, imported into the UK in 1999, with VAT paid. She has been in the present ownership for 18 years, and is for sale now as the owner is planning a long sabbatical and will not be able to sail her for a lengthy period.

Sailplan

Bavaria Yachts was formed in 1971, initially building a single 24 ft design. Over the next 15 to 20 years they expanded their range, and concentrated on building high quality yachts, though always with an eye to efficiency of production. The Bavaria 350 was introduced in around 1990/91, and at the time even the economy 'Sportline' versions were more expensive than a similar sized or even slightly longer Moody or Westerly, and a very similar price to a Maxi 35 from Sweden.

Axel Mohnhaupt, a German racing sailor and yacht designer, was the creator of all the early Bavarias, including the 350. These are in many ways comparable to some of the sportier Scandinavian yachts, with lots of solid woodwork below. The Bavaria 350 hulls are foam-cored GRP, with the outer layers in isopthalic resin and with kevlar reinforcement in the bow section.
NDER OFFER
The Bavaria 350 was built with two keel options (wing or fin) and two interior layout options. The "Lagoon" model was intended to be the 'owners' version, with a large single aft cabin and teak decks as standard. The "Caribic" version had twin aft cabins and no teak decks, and became popular with charter companies. Early on in the production run Bavaria also introduced "Sportline" versions, these were cheaper to build as they used off-the-shelf deck hardware, mostly from Lewmar, instead of their own custom built deck equipment. This yacht for sale is thus a Bavaria 350 Caribic Sportline. All the Bavaria 350s had quite high quality interior fitouts, with lots of lockers with nicely finished solid mahogany trim.

From the mid-1990s onwards Bavaria switched designers, first to J&J Designs, then to Farr Designs, and steadily increased their factory automation and simplified the interior fitout to reduce prices, rapidly becoming one of the largest yacht builders in the world.

Saloon- Bavaria 350 for sale

The Bavaria 350 is actually bigger than the 350 designation would suggest, at 36' 7" overall and 36' 3" on deck.
She also has much more solid joinery tan most later Bavarias, with (for instance) proper teak and holly
floorboards rather than laminate.

Deck

The boat has recently been lifted out for winter, and with a hosepipe ban in place within the club boatyard
is not yet cleaned up fully. The owner is in the process of replacing the aft sections of Treadmaster
non-slip on deck, and will be cleaning the hull and re-antifouling shortly.
