This Westerly Storm 33 is a 1989 version, which has very recently had a new 25 hp Beta engine installed to replace the original 18 hp Volvo. The hull is in remarkably good condition for her age, and she also has recent sails in good condition. She is for sale now as the owners are considering buying a motor yacht.

In the late 1980s Westerly Yachts brought in Ed Dubois to create a one-design racing class that could also be a fast, powerful cruiser.

In the end they sold two versions, the cruiser and the racing version with a larger rig. As the Lloyds hull construction certificate for this yacht from Westerly shows her to be a 'Storm' and not a 'Storm Cruiser' we assume her to be the racing version with larger rig. Apart from the four foot shorter rig, the only other significant difference between the Storm and the Storm Cruiser was that the Cruiser version came with an option of twin bilge keels.

Whilst the one-design class never really caught on, possibly because they were more heavily built than competing classes and hence a bit slower in light airs, both versions made excellent powerful cruisers. For a long period the Storm 33 and Fulmar 32 and 33 were sold at the same time, the Storm having the better accommodation with a proper double aft cabin, as well as being a beamier, heavier boat.
