A modern styled Moody, the smallest of the Bill Dixon designs, with the possible exception of the earlier Moody 27, the Moody 28 nevertheless has six berths in three cabins, including a double berth after cabin. She offers modern styling, roomy accommodation for a 28-footer, solid build quality and good though steady handling and performance. This 1987 example is in good condition and does not appear to have had a hard life.

Iron fin keel with skeg-hung rudder

Built from late 1985 to mid 1987, in both fin keel and bilge keel versions, the Moody 28 was very much a smaller version of the very successful Moody 31 - in fact she has as many berths and cabins, just slightly smaller, and is hence cheaper to maintain and berth. Despite the short production run (the yachts sold for not that much less than a Moody 31), the Moody 28 was well liked by both private owners and by some charter companies.

The saloon of the Moody 28 has an L-shaped galley to starboard, with the door to the aft cabin behind the galley. Opposite is the forward-facing chart table and the door to the heads compartment, which is remarkably spacious for a 28-footer


The aftcabin has a double berth, with an opening hatch for ventilation on the transom. Additional access to the rear of the engine is also available under the berth and on the sloping panel at the head of the berth
