Parker 31 |
Brief details |
Builder |
Parker Yachts Ltd, Lincolnshire. |
The Parker 31 is
an unusual high performance lift-keel yacht with excellent accommodation,
including over six feet headroom. The wing keel is over four feet
wide, and retracts to allow drying out in 2' of water. Like all
Parker lift-keel yachts, they command higher prices than you would
expect compared to similar sized non-lift-keel yachts |

The Parker 31 evolved from a 1981 Tony Castro design,
the 31' "Passage Maker", which was built by John Baker,
the builder of the Seal range of smaller lift-keel yachts. She was
intended to be a high performance, lifting-keel racer/cruiser, capable
of winning events such as The Three Peaks Race.
When Parker Yachts took over the assets of John Baker Ltd., the
design was modified to become the Parker 31. With 3 cabins, one
en suite, to house 2 double and 2 single berths, the design offers
a remarkable combination of accommodation and speed, plus the ability
to take the ground. 30 of these were built between 1987 and 1993.
"Yachting Monthly" said of the design: "....
the performance and handling are remarkable. She is very fast, unexpectedly
stable, and finger light on the tiller"
The design was later enlarged and modified to become the Parker
325 and 335 designs. Parker Liftkeel Yachts Ltd. ceased trading
in summer 2009. |
